Breathing deeply – ”Nature Remedy Krimml Waterfalls”

Close proximity to the waterfalls will have a positive effect on your health. This has been confirmed by scientific investigations carried out at the Krimml Waterfalls. The positive effect is attributed to the high concentration of negative air ions in the ambient air of the waterfall which stimulate the immune system, leading to a persistent improvement of the respiratory tract and positively affecting the function of the lungs. Even the frequency of allergic and asthmatic attacks can be reduced.

Depending on the position there are approx. 300 to 3000 ion pairs per cubic centimeter in the breathing air, and in the immediate vicinity of the waterfalls even values of 70,000 are measured. What is so healthy for people is the share of “light” air ions. These normally consist of negatively charged oxygen molecules that are able to attach to water droplets. Thus they gain their particularly high concentration and, as a result, their positive effect on health.

The medical effect of these negative air ions becomes evident mainly in the respiratory system. Studies have revealed that the major part of the charge of the negative air ions is delivered to the mucous membranes already in the nose. Negative air ions will accelerate the movement of the cilia, which leads to a considerably higher cleaning effect of the nasal mucosa and the mucous membranes of the respiratory system.
